Rebecca Giachini, a student of SEK-Ciudalcampo herself, was also named best speaker in English.

Other winners of the Debate League were the Colegio Arturo Soria, which became the winning team of the Spanish category, and Pablo Pazos, of Torrequebrada International School, named best speaker in Spanish.

The competition, which took place on 25 and 26 January in Madrid, featured 300 students from different schools from the autonomous region of Madrid who debated the topic of the tournament, in this case whether immigration is positive for the economy of European countries.

A top-level pre-university competition

The Pre-university Debate League consists of three tournaments, two qualifiers and a final, one category in Spanish, another in English, in addition to awards to best tournament speaker and best league speaker.

The three competitions of this third league are held in Madrid. The first tournament took place on 23 and 24 November at the Alameda de Osuna School, the second tournament was held on 25 and 26 January at Colegio Mirabal and the final will take place on 22 and 23 March at the University Camilo José Cela Villafranca del Castillo Campus.

In each CICAE-UCJC Debate League tournaments, students from year 3 of ESO to year 2 of Bachillerato debate current national or international issues. The organisers of the league put forward five questions and the schools vote on the topic for the competition.

The participants then have about two months to prepare their arguments. Subsequently, before the start of each debate, teams take part in a draw to decide who will debate for and against.
