SEK-Alborán celebrates 25 years aboard the Cervantes Saavedra

SEK-Alborán commemorated its 25th anniversary in an unparalleled setting, the schooner the Cervantes Saavedra, which from 4 to 21 March was docked at the port of Almería. During this time, various events took place with the entire SEK-Alborán educational community, including students, teachers, families and even former students.

The main event took place on 20 March aboard the SEK Education Group training ship, where Nieves Segovia, president of SEK Education Group, presented a commemorative plaque of the school’s anniversary to the guests: María del Mar Vázquez Agüero, mayor of Almería; Francisco Góngora Cara, mayor of El Ejido; and María Rosario Soto Rico, president of the port authority of Almería.

In her speech, Nieves Segovia thanked “the support of the educational community in El Ejido and in Almería, which has allowed two of our dreams to come true over these 25 years. On the one hand, to be able to contribute something different to the society of the province with a pioneering school and, on the other hand, to take learning beyond the classroom, through this ship that is 90 years old and is the sum of sea, education, culture and knowledge”.

Miguel Ángel López, head of SEK-Alborán, said that, for him, “it is an honour to have the opportunity to be part of this celebration,” and to be able to celebrate this anniversary aboard the Cervantes Saavedra, “an educational space outside the school, since the classroom is not the only place to learn.”

Francisco Góngora, mayor of El Ejido, expressed his pride “for having a SEK School in our municipality. We have been witnesses, and we continue to be, of the educational quality that you represent, always instilling values such as effort, work or critical spirit, and with a continuous commitment to the comprehensive training of students.”

In addition, as part of the programming for its 25th anniversary, the school held an open day on 17 March where the training vessel of SEK Education Group, the Cervantes Saavedra, a three-masted, 50-metre schooner was presented as an ideal environment for training. Aboard this schooner, attendees were able to learn more about its 90-year history, as well as its technical characteristics.

An education based on innovation and entrepreneurship

SEK-Alborán started on 19 June 199 offering an education based on entrepreneurship and innovation; technology and digitization and social impact and well-being. The school has accreditation, among others, from the International Baccalaureate (IB) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and is recognised for its commitment to transformation and the pursuit of excellence with its competency model.

SEK-Alborán offers all educational levels – early years, primary, secondary and baccalaureate -, so it accompanies the student in their learning from the age of 2 to 18 with the Intelligent Classroom, the revolutionary educational system implemented by Felipe Segovia, founder of SEK Education Group.
