SEK International School El Castillo and Kaptiva Sports Academy have signed a collaboration agreement to provide academic education and sports training to young people from all over the world in Madrid.
These international students, aged between 14 and 18, are expected to start their classes in the forthcoming 2020/21 school year. They will attend year 4 and 5 of the IB Middle Years Programme and years 1 and 2 of the Diploma Programme, either in English and Spanish or only in English, enabling them to attend the best universities in the world. The school offers students the chance to take the Spanish Bachillerato, part of the Spanish national curriculum (LOMCE). SEK-El Castillo has been offering the International Baccalaureate programmes since 1977, longer than any other school in Spain.
“This collaboration will further expand our student’s international exposure, offering them an enriching experience through living with schoolmates from other cultures. SEK-El Castillo has a long-standing experience in welcoming students from all over the world, combining high-performance sports programmes with a demanding educational framework and educational excellence,” said Eloísa López, Principal of SEK International School El Castillo.
For his part, Iván Daza, Chief Operating Officer of Kaptiva Sports, said that they were “very excited to open our second residential football academy in Spain alongside on of the most prestigious educational institutions in the country. One of the most important aspects of the project is to have an academic partner with international scope like the SEK-El Castillo”.
Students, who will stay at the international boarding house on the school grounds will receive an education and train at the school’s own facilities and those of University Camilo José Cela, including football pitches and athletic tracks, and will enjoy individualised high performance sports programmes.

Experience in offering tailored individual academic and sports programmes
The SEK Education Group, to which the SEK El Castillo International School belongs, has extensive experience in the training of high-performance athletes in different disciplines. The SEK International Sports Academy programme has as its main objective to ensure this type of students enjoy all-round sporting, academic and personal development, thanks to its Individualised Sports Development Programmes.
In academic terms, each student, in addition to following their standard studies, receives training in nutrition plans, mental training, motivational sports coaching and specific fitness training adapted to each sport discipline, in close collaboration with the School of Health and Education at University Camilo José Cela, which also belongs to this educational group and is located just a few meters from SEK-El Castillo. Likewise, students take other subjects related to ethics and sporting values and receive training in the use of new technologies and technological development in sports.
SEK Education Group boasts historic links to sport and a firm commitment to the practice of sport. It was the first private teaching institution in Spain to offer high performance athlete schools and today offers tennis, swimming, horse riding, golf and skiing academies. Thanks to this long-standing trajectory, combining academic education and sports, it was awarded the National Sports Prize in 1988 and 2010 and the Spanish Olympic Committee Prize in 2010 for its support for sports and Olympism.
