SEK Education Group, recognized for its solidarity with the victims of the DANA

On Tuesday, April 1st, the event ‘A Coffee with Education’ took place, organized by the Federation of Educational Centers of Valencia (FECEVAL-CECE), at the Mas Camarena Resort, in tribute to José Luis Marín Carbonell, founder of the Escuelas Siglo XXI group, who passed away as a result of the DANA. During the event, more than 50 organizations, institutions, schools, publishers, and individuals were recognized for their support of the educational centers affected by the torrential rains and floods that struck the Valencian Community last October.

Among the awardees was SEK Education Group, represented by Alejandro Díaz-Garreta, the institution’s Director of Foundations, who accepted the recognition on behalf of the entire SEK community.

SEK Education Group was honored for its valuable and committed contribution to the affected educational communities, channeled from the very beginning through its Emergency Committee. In total, more than 3,822 kilos of food and essential supplies were donated, and over 23,000 euros were raised through solidarity initiatives such as Christmas markets and hot chocolate events. In addition, financial donations were made in collaboration with the Red Cross and World Central Kitchen to support recovery efforts following the disaster.

SEK Education Group’s involvement went beyond immediate aid. SEK schools in Spain and Ireland partnered with Valencian educational centers to support them during the return to the classroom once the emergency had passed. Teachers and students actively participated in fundraising campaigns, as well as in the creation of educational materials and recreational activities.

The award presented to SEK Education Group was a “socarrat”, a glazed fired clay tile of medieval origin, symbolizing solidarity and commitment to education.
