SEK International School Ciudalcampo – part of SEK Education Group – has obtained excellent results in the PISA school test , which measures students’ reading, mathematics and science skills, as well as their attitudes towards learning and the school environment.
SEK-Ciudalcampo has voluntarily submitted to the test, as it did last school year, with a sample of 76 students from year 4 Secondary School chosen randomly.
SEK-Ciudalcampo students are two years ahead of the Spanish average in terms of reading age. Thus, the average performance of SEK-Ciudalcampo students in this area was 555 points, significantly higher than the average performance of 496 points obtained by students from all over Spain in the 2015 PISA assessment. They also ranked above the countries with the best reading scores, Singapore (535 points) and Hong Kong (527 points).
In mathematics, the average performance of students was 584 points, clearly higher than the average performance obtained by Spanish students (486 points) and also above the highest performing educational system in mathematics in PISA 2015, Singapore, with an average score of 564 points. SEK-Ciudalcampo students are three years ahead of the Spanish average in terms of mathematics.
In the case of sciences, the average score for SEK-Ciudalcampo was 560 points, again above the average for the whole of Spain and the average for OECD countries (both with 493 points). The highest performing science education system is also that of Singapore, with an average of 556 points.
The results obtained by SEK-Ciudalcampo have also been better than the average of the schools members of the Association of Private and Independent Schools (CICAE) that have voluntarily submitted to the test, with a difference of 2 points in reading, 13 points in mathematics and 5 points in science.
In terms of student performance, it is worth noting the high percentage of students who reached the highest skill levels compared to the PISA 2015 report in Spain: 14% compared to 6% in reading; 35% compared to 7% in maths and 6% against 5% in sciences.
The evaluation carried out by SEK-Ciudalcampo is based on the criteria of the Programme for the International Assessment of Students (PISA) with which, over the past 15 years, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has assessed the quality, fairness and efficiency of education systems in more than 80 countries, as well as recognising whether students have acquired the knowledge and skills that are essential for full participation in modern societies. PISA general reports are carried out every three years, and the last one was published in 2015.
