SEK-Catalunya achieves major recognition in the Aramco STEM Racing 2025 World Finals in Singapore

A team of students from SEK International School Catalunya, LumiNox, made up of Evgeny Yaskov, Andrey Verbin, Lucía Zamora, Jaeoyoung Heo and Elisabet Pawlenko, represented Spain in the Aramco STEM Racing 2025 World Finals, held in Singapore from September 27 to October 2, alongside the Formula 1 Grand Prix taking place the same weekend in the country.

STEM Racing, formerly known as F1 in Schools, challenges students to design, manufacture, and race 15-centimeter scale Formula 1 cars powered by compressed gas, testing their creativity, ingenuity, and teamwork skills. LumiNox, sponsored by SEK International Sports Academy, earned their place in the event after being crowned Spanish champions last June at IFEMA (Madrid), where they also won awards for Fastest Car and Best Team Identity in the national competition.

Ahead of the Singapore finals, the team incorporated two students from Xispa, the first Spanish team to participate in STEM Racing World Finals last year, consolidating SEK-Catalunya as the only educational institution in Spain with teams that have competed at a global level.

During the first days in Singapore, the team successfully completed the initial official test, the “scrutineering,” where they presented their two finished cars and went through six assessment stations evaluating design, quality, and resistance of each component. They later set up their pit display, the stand where they showcased their year-long work to 32 countries and over 400 competitors.

On Tuesday, September 30, the so-called “feedback sessions” took place. In these closed-door meetings, teams and judges discussed each evaluable aspect of the competition, providing valuable insights that will help students improve even more next year. On Wednesday, October 1, the awards ceremony was held. Ultimately, LumiNox finished the competition in 48th place with 554.4 points, ranking above the other two Spanish teams. They also earned additional recognition by being chosen as one of the three best teams in the “DHL Race Behind the Race Competition.” Billy Monger, DHL ambassador and former karting and Formula 4 driver, interviewed them to learn about the team’s story and the journey that led them to these world finals.

The event is sponsored primarily by Aramco and supported by Denford, Autodesk, Ansys, Singapore Grand Prix, DHL, Amaron, PMI Educational Foundation, Mitutoyo, UCL Mechanical Engineering, Singapore Tourism Board, and the FIA.
