SEK-Catalunya has successfully concluded its participation in the STEM Racing 2026 national final, where its teams won four awards after three days of competition. The event brought together 36 qualifying teams from across Spain and put students’ talent, preparation and teamwork to the test in an experience that connects science, technology, engineering, entrepreneurship, creativity and sport.
The final day of the competition included the last races and the teams’ verbal presentations, as well as the defence of their business and engineering portfolios. During the day, the students received support from José Luis Lesma, Sports Director of SEK Education Group, and Xavier Pacheco, Deputy Director of SEK-Catalunya.
At the awards ceremony, SEK-Catalunya students received four recognitions in a final marked by the high competitive level of the participating teams, especially those from Madrid and Andalusia.
The Cybernova team, in the Professional category, was recognised with the Girls in STEM Leadership Award and the I+D and R&D Award. Meanwhile, the Ignis team, in the Entry Class category, won the title of National Champion and the Best Engineered Car award.
These results consolidate the excellent performance of the SEK-Catalunya teams, which three weeks earlier had already taken the top positions in the regional competition held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Their qualification for the national final positioned the school as one of the main protagonists of the event: five SEK-Catalunya teams took part in the final stage, meaning that almost one in every seven finalist teams came from the school.
STEM Racing, formerly known as F1 in Schools, is an international STEM competition that challenges students to design, manufacture and race scale Formula 1 cars, reproducing the real workings of a Formula 1 team. The experience goes far beyond building the vehicle: students must create their own team, design the car, seek sponsors, build a brand identity, develop communication materials, present their project to the jury and compete on the track.
SEK-Catalunya’s participation in this competition reflects the work carried out by the school in innovation, scientific thinking, engineering, design, communication and teamwork. It also highlights the value of an educational approach that promotes interdisciplinary learning and connects technical knowledge with skills such as creativity, leadership, planning, collaboration and problem-solving.
