SEK-Alboran, selected as Ambassador School to the European Parliament

SEK-Alboran has been selected as an Ambassador School to the European Parliament by the Parliament’s Directorate General for Communication, which organises this educational scheme for students from year 4 Secondary to year 2 Baccalaureate.

The scheme aims for young people to fully experience European citizenship and raise awareness on how this institution, apparently so distant, affects our lives in one way or another.

In its fifth edition, 105 schools in Spain have been selected based on their motivations and experiences described in the registration form. In this sense, SEK International School Alboran has all the human and material resources necessary to be able to take part in this scheme.

As an ambassador school, and coordinated by José Manuel Hernández, during this school year various learning experiences related to Europe will be organised, also working collaboratively with other European schools.

Scholarships such as Comenius or Erasmus are a clear example of initiatives that help young European citizens to feel part of the European Union. Sentiment regarding Europe is diverse and, interestingly, in the referendum held in 2016 only 12% of young English people voted in the Brexit vote, which was decisive for Britain’s exit from the EU.

Within the multiple campaigns on the scheme, our school will take part in EYE, which will take place in Strasbourg on 29 and 30 May 2021. EYE is a unique opportunity for 16-30 year olds to meet and exchange their views with experts, activists, influencers and decision makers at the heart of European democracy.
