Nieves Segovia: “Teachers are the other heroes of the pandemic”

The president of SEK Education Group took part in the panel discussion on education and employability of the Wake Up, Spain! Forum organised by Invertia and the digital newspaper El Español.

The president of SEK Education Group, Nieves Segovia, advocated for life-long learning and the need for the different stakeholder of the education system to work together.  “We are going to have to continue to learn over the course of our lives, updating our knowledge, but not as we have done so far,” he said.

She also defended the work of teachers. “They have been the other heroes of the pandemic” and she stressed the need to train them in “digital skills, and this should be in the order of priorities of the ministry and, of course, of educational institutions.”

The president also used her address to announce the launch of the Digital Skills School that will be taught by Camilo José Cela University, with the support of El Español and the Inndux Digital Group, to train managers and middle managers in areas related to innovation in technology and entrepreneurship.

Isabel Celaá, Spanish Minister of Education and Vocational Training, was responsible for inaugurating the final day of the event, devoted to education and equality and which included, among others, the ministers Irene Montero and Yolanda Díaz; the president of the Madrid Region, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, Ana Botín, Pablo Isla, Valdis Dombrovskis and Ángel Gurría.

‘Wake up, Spain!’ tackled the government’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan for the application of European Funds as its main topic. It was also attended by the Spanish prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, members of his cabinet, regional presidents, mayors, leading businesspeople and social leaders. The sessions lasted four days and took place face-to-face at the Casa de América in Madrid and were broadcast via streaming.
