The 3rd Edtech Innovation Investment Forum organised by SEK Lab and SEK Education Group was held on 12 November. In addition, Edutech Cluster and Amazon Web Services (AWS) also took part.
The event began with the welcome address by Nieves Segovia, President of SEK Education Group, who officially opened the event virtually. In her speech, she thanked everyone for attending, especially investors and startups, to whom she wished good luck, and added that “the education system is not going to transform from within, we are not going to do it alone, we have to do it together.”
The event continued with an address by Félix López, Director of SEK Lab, who presented the first Edtech Observatory in Spain, which has been prepared together with Amazon Web Services (AWS). The study features one hundred surveys of the main CEOs of Edtech companies in Spain. Some of the questions answered in the surveys were, ‘How much have startups sold?’ ‘Do you sell outside Spain?’ and ‘How much money have you made to date?’ And, finally, Félix López, concluded the presentation of the study, highlighting that Covid-19 has favoured Edtech.
The afternoon progressed with the five-minute pitch that the ten Edtech startups had prepared to connect with the 70 investors and obtain the investments they had were looking for. The ten Edtech Startups were B-resol, Fiction Express, Gaptain, Smowl, Wuolah, Caira, Educabily, Great Little People, Kotokan and Zapiens.
Once the startups finished their pitch, the event continued with the vote by the judges and investors. Meanwhile, the Director of SEK Lab announced three awards to three startups, SEK Lab Award to the Most Innovative Proposal for Zapiens, Edutech Cluster Award for Best Business Model for Wuolah and AWS EdStart Award for the Most Worthy of Investment for Fiction Express.
Finally, the 3rd Edtech Innovation Investment Forum concluded with a live visit on Instagram and a face-to-face visit to the Edtech space at the Almagro headquarters of Camilo José Cela University.
