Hugo González, SEK Alumni, becomes the second-youngest player in history to start for the Boston Celtics

Madrid-born Hugo González, a former student of SEK-Ciudalcampo, made history with the Boston Celtics. At just 19 years and 263 days old, he was included in the team’s starting lineup for an official NBA game, becoming the second-youngest player in the franchise’s history to achieve this milestone.

His first start came in the game against the Detroit Pistons, where the coach decided to give the young Spanish forward a place in the starting five only a few days after his official NBA debut at the legendary Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks.

Although the game ended in defeat for Boston (119-113), González’s presence in the starting lineup marked an important milestone in his career and in the history of the NBA’s most decorated franchise. In his 18 minutes on the court, González did not score, but recorded one rebound, two steals, and one block, showing promising defensive instincts despite the loss.

Only Jayson Tatum, who started at 19 years and 228 days, was younger than González when making his first start for the Celtics. The former SEK-Ciudalcampo student is also one of only three players under the age of 20 ever to start for the Massachusetts franchise in its 80-year history, alongside Al Jefferson and Tatum himself.
