Real Madrid has secured a spot in the 2025 Copa del Rey semifinals thanks to a last-minute goal by academy player Gonzalo García Torres against Leganés at Butarque. Gonzalo, a former SEK student, scored his first goal with Real Madrid’s first team (and the most important of his career so far) with a powerful header following a cross from Brahím.
“I’m super happy, nervous. I don’t even know what to think. It’s been my dream since I joined the academy,” confessed Gonzalo, who is only 20 years old (he will turn 21 on March 24). He took his first steps in football with the SEK-El Castillo team before moving to Club Santa Bárbara and Jarama Race at just 10 years old, eventually signing with Real Madrid in 2014.
Gonzalo García is another sporting success story among former SEK students this week, following Luka Doncic’s signing with the Los Angeles Lakers last Saturday. The Slovenian also attended SEK-El Castillo, where he studied from the age of 10 after joining Real Madrid.
