On 12 November, Madrid will once again become an international meeting point for those helping to shape the future of education. SEK Education Group, which includes Camilo José Cela University and SEK International Schools, will host a new edition of Global Education Forum Madrid (GEF), a movement for thought, dialogue and collaboration that has brought together education leaders, researchers, institutional representatives, innovators and experts from different fields and countries since its first edition in 2010.
Under the theme Governing Intelligence: Human Judgment and the Future of Knowledge, Global Education Forum Madrid 2026 will address one of the most important questions facing the future of education: what should remain under human judgement and responsibility as intelligent systems become increasingly capable?
Artificial intelligence is transforming the way knowledge is produced, assessed, distributed and certified. In this context, the debate in education can no longer be limited to deciding which tools to adopt or which tasks to automate. The real challenge lies in determining which responsibilities can be delegated, which decisions should remain human and what role educational institutions should play in this new landscape.
“In education, simply adopting artificial intelligence is not enough. We need to decide what we want it to amplify, which responsibilities we are not prepared to delegate, and which fundamentally human capabilities we must protect. Global Education Forum aims to contribute to this conversation by bringing together international perspectives and helping institutions approach these decisions with sound judgement and responsibility,” says Nieves Segovia, President of SEK Education Group and founder of Global Education Forum.
From using artificial intelligence to taking responsibility for governing it
The Forum programme will be structured around a series of interconnected questions, including which dimensions of education should not be delegated to intelligent systems; who should govern artificial intelligence in learning and with what legitimacy; how critical thinking, intellectual autonomy and the conditions in which judgement is formed can be protected; and what responsibilities institutions assume when they use systems that influence learning, assessment or certification.
Global Education Forum was created with the aim of anticipating major debates in education and bringing together diverse perspectives in order to turn reflection into institutional responsibility and action. The 2026 edition will reinforce this purpose at a time when schools, universities, public authorities and international organisations must make decisions that will shape the future of knowledge and learning.
Madrid, a meeting point for major conversations about education
This year, GEF will form part of Madrid Education Week, a shared framework that will bring together different international communities and events related to educational innovation over several days.
The programme will include initiatives and communities linked to HundrED, WISE, the European Council of International Schools (ECIS), Fundación Querer and the Felipe Segovia Symposium, while each retains its own identity and purpose. The Felipe Segovia Symposium is the gathering at which professionals from SEK Education Group share experiences, research and best practices in educational innovation.
Madrid Education Week will create opportunities to connect these complementary perspectives and position Madrid as an international forum for discussion on the future of education.
