SEK-Ciudalcampo, first and second place in the CICAE–UCJC Pre-University Debate League

Two teams from SEK-Ciudalcampo achieved first and second place in the CICAE–Camilo José Cela University Pre-University Debate League, held last weekend at Mirabal International School (Boadilla del Monte, Madrid). This edition brought together 85 teams from across Spain, confirming its status as one of the most significant pre-university debate competitions in Europe in both size and academic level.

In this edition, teams debated the following question: In countries facing severe internal conflict and security issues, is it legitimate to sacrifice fundamental rights in the name of public safety? The Upper School team, composed of Amanda, Mía, Ybarra and Marta Hazeu, was crowned champion after an impeccable performance in which they did not lose a single debate, defending both the affirmative and negative positions with equal skill. The judges particularly highlighted their ability to analyse complex situations, argue with precision, and present well-supported evidence.

The Middle School team, formed by Clara, Ana, Alice, Lourdes and Pablo, earned a well-deserved second place after a strong and consistent performance throughout the tournament. The final round featured both SEK-Ciudalcampo teams in a high-level debate where they demonstrated clear presentation skills, critical thinking, and excellent command of the information in both positions.

The judging panel praised the oratory excellence and rigorous argumentation of both teams, underscoring the high quality of the students’ work. Additionally, Mía Nájera, a 1st-year Upper School student, received the Best Speaker Award of the competition, a recognition highlighting her ability to present her team’s researched ideas with clarity, precision, and convincing force.
