The Atresmedia Foundation has announced the finalists of the 4th edition of the AMI Minds Awards, which recognize outstanding educational initiatives for their ability to integrate media, information, and digital literacy into the classroom. Among the selected projects is AI-Azgos, developed at the SEK-Ciudalcampo International School, which has been named a finalist in the Digital Competence Development category.
AI-Azgos began as a scientific project led by students from the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and was previously awarded Best Scientific Project in the First Lego League competition. But its impact didn’t stop there. Building on that initial experience, the technology department team, along with teachers from other educational stages, decided to expand the project to new grade levels within the school, turning it into a true driver of cross-disciplinary learning.
Inspired by the essence of AI-Azgos—focused on the use of artificial intelligence to protect marine ecosystems and promote sustainability—new initiatives emerged that applied its principles to areas such as health, education, and the environment. This expansion of the project has fostered critical thinking, creativity, collaborative work, and a commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals, while also consolidating an ethical, inclusive, and innovative approach to the use of artificial intelligence in the classroom.
The SEK-Ciudalcampo project was selected from among more than 300 submissions from across Spain, and shares its category with initiatives from regions such as Aragón, Castilla-La Mancha, and other distinguished educational centers. The award ceremony will soon be organized by the Atresmedia Foundation, in collaboration with Platino Educa, UNIE University, and Fundación La Caixa.
Being named a finalist in the AMI Minds Awards is a recognition of the active role students can play in educational transformation, and a testament to the potential of ideas born in the classroom when they are combined with vision, support, and a drive to make an impact.
