César Gómez De la Cal, AI Solution Expert at Camilo José Cela University (UCJC), delivered a new Aula de Familias session for families of the SEK International Schools entitled “AI in Your Hands: Tools and Practical Uses.”
The session offered a practical and informative overview of how artificial intelligence has moved from being a distant technology to becoming an accessible tool that enhances our everyday capabilities.
During the session, Gómez De la Cal explained that AI should be understood as an “exoskeleton” that strengthens human abilities, always keeping the person at the center of the process.
He also recalled how the turning point came with the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, whose exponential growth marked a before and after in the mass adoption of these technologies.
“Superpowers” within everyone’s reach
With a clear and approachable teaching style, he structured the session around the “superpowers” that AI now places in the hands of any user. Among them, he highlighted the ability to:
-
Draft meeting minutes from a simple transcript through direct dialogue with the tool.
-
Translate videos into multiple languages while maintaining one’s own voice and synchronizing lip movement.
-
Create personalized stories — even incorporating real images — through tools such as Gemini.
-
Organize and analyze large volumes of information with NotebookLM, generating summaries, presentations, infographics, or even podcasts from user-provided documents.
-
Conduct in-depth research (“deep research”) to make complex decisions, such as comparing mortgages, by obtaining detailed reports after analyzing multiple sources.
-
Design 3D spaces from a floor plan or photograph, generate furnishing proposals, and even transform simple sketches into realistic images.
-
Create high-level creative images, infographics, and videos using simple descriptions.
One of the central themes of the workshop was the importance of the “prompt” — the way we communicate with AI. He explained that an effective prompt should include the task, context, examples, role, format, and tone in order to achieve precise results. “The context we provide is extremely important,” he emphasized during the Q&A session.
Critical thinking and responsibility
Beyond the practical demonstrations, the session also addressed the social and educational implications of this technological revolution. Gómez De la Cal stressed that the challenge is not to fear AI, but to learn how to direct it: “We need to become AI directors, to orchestrate different tools in order to complete a task,” he explained.
In response to families’ questions about reliability, regulation, and child protection, he noted that current tools are increasingly reliable and reminded attendees that Europe has already introduced the AI Act, which regulates sensitive issues such as data use and the protection of minors.
The session concluded with a visual metaphor: artificial intelligence as a moving walkway in an airport. We can either stand still and let it carry us, or move forward using our own abilities; but when we combine personal effort with technology, the potential multiplies.
With this workshop, Aula de Familias reaffirms its commitment to supporting SEK families in understanding the technological advances that are transforming education and society, providing practical tools for the conscious, critical, and responsible use of artificial intelligence.
