The World Universities Debating Championship (WUDC), is the most prestigious tournament of its kind in the world and is held annually.
The Championship has been held since 1981 in a different host country each year for over thirty years running. The tournament brings together students from some of the best universities in the world at a single event. The 2017 edition, held in the Netherlands, featured over 400 teams from around 90 countries.
The tournament lasts a week and has the highest level of competitive debate in the world. The meetings are held in a regulated format called British Parliamentary style – based on debates in the British House of Commons. In it, four teams compete against each other in two opposing factions, with a topic and an imposed position, of which the teams are informed fifteen minutes before the start of the debate.
