The Andalusian Government has awarded the Extraordinary Awards for Compulsory Secondary Education to publicly recognise the effort and dedication of students who have completed these studies with excellent results. A distinction to those “10 out of 10 students” that exist in Andalusian secondary schools.
In the 2022/23 edition, 158 extraordinary ESO awards have been given throughout Andalusia, three of them are students at SEK International School Alborán. We chatted with them to find out how they did it.
Organisation and family support are essential
Organisation is key to do the greatest number of tasks in the shortest possible time. Lucía is clear that “while it is important to review and keep up to date with each of the subjects, I need organisation to prepare for a week full of exams and projects.”
In addition, she believes that there is no specific “trick” that helps her achieve these results, although she does consider that her support network helps her a lot. For Lucía, her greatest source of inspiration has always been her grandmother. “My grandmother always reminded me that consistency and work are rewarded. In short, family support is vital to achieve your goals.”
The SEK educational model is also key
SEK-Alborán students are clear that the educational approach has given them the opportunity to improve their predisposition to lifelong learning and to improve their profile as students.
Likewise, teachers are an essential part of their preparation. According to Alejandro, “the teachers who have been part of my previous years of study have respected these approaches, in addition to focusing on exposing the usefulness of forging aspects that go beyond the academic” and also adds their influence beyond the preparation of each subject. “Both the explanations in classes and the way of evaluating have allowed me to understand what is truly important in each subject and to apply concepts to my life, such as organisation” and that “the help provided by teachers regarding any unforeseen event that could arise creates an ideal and calming environment, with giving me confidence to achieve my goals, which I firmly believe has been reflected in my results.”
Motivation to continue studying
This award “has been a recognition that has taken us several years to obtain” admitted Violeta. This award, which the student admits, “I did not expect at all,” will drive her to continue striving.
“Right now I am in the first year of science baccalaureate, and although I am not entirely clear what I would like to study, I would like to work in something related to genetics or biology, I also do not rule out studying something related to business administration or languages,” she admits.
